Throughout
time poets, artists and scientists have conjured
up the essence of Heaven On Earth through metaphor,
colour and image. Union Dance has created a
thrilling evening that reaches beyond the boundaries
of dance to present fresh and diverse interpretations
of the elusive concept. In Sublime Element Tayeb
Benamara uses graceful movement to explore the
idea of being in harmony with one’s own
contradictions. Singer and musician Juwon Ogungbe
provides live accompaniment. Two Bye Two features
choreography by Anh Ngoc Nguyen, who received
the New British Bonnie Bird Award in 2005. In
Celestial Dawning choreographer and dancer Michael
Joseph draws on the company’s unique urban
style to represent the energetic spirit of transformation.

From
Neverland to the glens of Scotland, from society
drawing rooms to couthy firesides - everywhere,
Barrie is the master storyteller, and your guide.
His eagle eye exposes the humour, cruelty, love
and dreams that make up the theatre of life.
JM Barrie was the creator of Peter Pan and the
most successful playwright of his age, and was
also a popular novelist and sketch writer who
constantly mined his own life. Splinters Productions,
whose previous successes include For the Islands
I Sing and Scot of the Anarchic, pay tribute
to Barrie’s genius in this magical four-hander.
Devised by Donald Smith and the Company: John
Shedden, Anna Hepburn, Finlay McLean, Kara Johnston.
Suitable for ages 12 plus. (back

The
Wall is a coming of age story set in the small
Ayrshire town of Stewarton, directed by Gregory
Thompson. It's the summer holidays and the weather
just won't settle down. Maybe it's global warming
but global events don't usually affect Stewarton
much. Norma Gordon has got a problem and she's
going to be in big trouble if her Dad finds
out. Norma's big brother Barry has just left
school without any Highers, or any sense of
direction, but that isn't what's causing the
problems at home. Barry's in love for the first
time. The school holidays are like a microwave.
So much happens and it all happens so fast.
This summer everything is changing in Stewarton.
Strong language, suitable for ages 15 plus.

Who
is Martha? Martha lives by the sea. Martha lives
alone. Martha doesn’t need anyone. She
is stubborn, eccentric and highly independent.
Who are Martha’s friends? Not her next
door neighbour. Not her helpful postman. Nor
her secret admirer from across the bay. One
day she has an unexpected visitor and for Martha
life will never be the same again. The award-winning
Catherine Wheels present this a wonderful, humorous
story about friendship, trust and a goose. For
ages 4 plus. (back

THE
SCOTTISH JAZZ ALL STARS |
|
| Monday
17th March 2008 - 7.30pm |
The
Scottish Jazz All Stars present a new programme
featuring a tribute to the Clyde Valley Stompers,
best loved and most popular of all Scottish
Jazz Bands. There's none better qualified than
the All Stars - with fifty years of Scottish
jazz in the band. Scotland's favourite singer
Fionna Duncan and the great Forrie Cairns both
performed gloriously in the Clyde Valley Stompers.
Musselburgh born bassist Ronnie Rae played with
the Alex Welsh Band and the Stompers. Alongside
them are Edinburgh's Brian Kellock - a world
class pianist in anyone's lists, and Tom Gordon
who, when he's not with the All Stars, is the
number one BBC drummer. It's a nostalgic sound
but with 21st century fire. No band more deserves
the name All Stars than this one. (back

MR
McFALL'S CHAMBER : AN AFFIRMATION OF MARTYN
BENNETT |
|
| Wednesday
19th
March 2008 - 7.30pm |
The
brave new music of a maverick musician and composer
is celebrated by one of Europe's most fearlessly
outward looking chamber ensembles. Bennett,
who died at the tragically early age of 33 in
2005, was a piper and fiddle player who combined
classical and jazz elements with Scottish traditional
music and the beats of the 90s rave scene to
create powerful contemporary grooves. Mr McFall's
Chamber enjoyed a compatible relationship with
Bennett dating back to the ensemble's formation
in the mid 1990s. A chamber music ensemble like
no other chamber music ensemble, the band comprises
mostly classical players for whom the lure of
other musical styles has proved irresistible.
They are well known for their eclectic mix of
musical genres, programming classical and contemporary
composers alongside rock, tango, klezmer, cartoon
music and jazz. The band features a core string
quartet from the Scottish Chamber Orchestra
with piano, bass and drums/percussion. This
programme includes pieces written for the group
by two other composers with a background in
Scottish traditional music - Edward McGuire
and Fraser Fifield. (back

in an overgrown garden where time doesn’t
always run according to the clock, is an eccentric
and extraordinary woman who grows not flowers
but colourful ideas. Eccentric, curious and
probably cantankerous, expect expressive gibberish
and serious gobbledygook in this richly textured,
visual and imaginative dance performance. Tabula
Rasa Dance Company have a reputation for creating
inspiring dance performances for children. Suitable
